De film volgt het leven van een stel excentrieke en moedige Texaanse hoogspanningsmonteurs die met gevaar voor eigen leven het elektriciteitsnetwerk onderhouden. Beau (John Travolta) is een goedaardige man die zich schuldig voelt voor de dood van zijn broer en alleen zijn wees geworden nichtje Bailey (Kate Bosworth) opvoedt. Wanneer op een avond tijdens een zware storm Bailey haar knappe minnaar zich bij Beau zijn crew voegt, beginnen de problemen.
